How To Do Pastel Hair (if you do not have chalk pastel)

I rarely ever do tutorials but I could not pass this one.
As I told you the only thing stopping me from doing the pastel hair colour was the lack of chalk pastels. For whatever reason nearby shops only have oil pastels with them. I have a play to attend tomorrow which my college mates are doing and I will be helping with make-up. I wanted the pastel hair so bad for tomorrow that I took it up as a challenge to improvise.

What I used

1. Colour blocks from an old water colour box (I had them lying around)
2. A thick paint brush to water the hair
3. Curling iron(straightening iron would work just fine)

What I did

1. Took a small section of hair and twisted it
2. With the paint brush I dabbed water on the twisted end of the hair. Made sure it was almost dripping wet
3. Took a block of colour and rubbed it till I could see the colour on my hair
4. When it was a bit damp and the colour seemed enough I used the mild hot curling iron

That's it guys. I hope the colour will stay till tomorrow. I have clipped it away carefully tonight.I didn't read anywhere how hairspray would affect the colour so I am not going to use it on the colour. It will wash away with shampoo. I don't think it will damage the hair because it is temporary. I can become addicted though.

P.S.- The colour stayed for about 20 hours. I washed it off when I came back. No visible damage was done. It didn't stain my hair. Don't forget to condition as this takes out moisture from the hair. I liked the blue the best. I think I will try out a better shade of green next time...and also try to improve from this attempt. I was happy with my 1st attempt nevertheless.

My Wishful Thinking

I have been longingly looking at pastel hair colour since last year. Recently I heard that it can be done temporarily with chalk pastels (yes you read it right). I have been dying to try it since then. I just need to get the chalk pastels.

What You’ll Need
Soft Pastel Chalk (no oil)
Water Filled Spray Bottle
Gloves
Blow Dryer
Flat Iron
An old t-shirt you don’t mind ruining.

1. Take a 1-inch strand of hair and wet it with a spray bottle (skip this step if you already have blonde hair)
2. Apply gloves and take a pastel of your choice. Rub it on your hair strand until it’s at your desired vibrancy 3. Blow dry the hair strand until completly dry.
4. Go over the strand with your flat iron. This will help set it in. Make sure it’s on its lowest setting.
5. Brush and style as usual!
This will wash out during your next shampoo, so do as many strands as you’d like!

It's already so very hot over here. We entirely skipped spring and it's only going to get hotter. I am going out in my comfiest outfits. Loose pants, cotton tops, kajal and lip balm(which I eat off by the middle of the day). I went to watch The Hunger Games on Saturday. I went out and bought the whole series. I am so looking forward to actually sitting down and reading it. I have one exam after the other, a project, a home assignment.. and I am doing all this while catching up on other blogs, getting inspiration, watching new TV show episodes, trivia hunting, cinema hoarding and snoozing.

And how do you like my new blog header? I updated it shortly after my last post.

Black & White

After my last outfit post I decided I will wait till I move in to my new room because I was sick of my bright yellow walls as the background. The walls in my new room are pale pastel pink and there's a beautiful window from where I can see the sunrise every morning sitting on the wide ledge.
Ah...but alas I lost the huge cardboard box I used as a makeshift tripod when we moved. It was thought to be junk(which I guess it was,I hoard stuff I find useful like a magpie regardless of what it is) and thrown out promptly when I wasn't looking. But nearly 3 months is enough I said last night and did a minimal photoshoot. A small stool on top of a chair was the tripod. I haven't yet found a place to put some things in and they were in the background and hence the major background zoom effect.
I played with colours in my make-up as my outfit was a simple black & white look. I am experimenting with flash photography. I like the haloed effect it gives with a bright centre.

There Are Many Shades of Purple

I am fond of wacky/bold shades of nail colours and lip colours. I don't really wear lipstick that often. On a daily basis for a college student sleep is the priority apart from well occasionally wondering about the future and where we are headed and what job(if any) will land on our lazy laps - all that jazz you know. But for rare occasions I like dressing up and I don't mind if someone stares at my bold red lips or exaggerated winged liner. I have been there and I have actually taken that as a compliment.

Remember this post where I mentioned I bought the Lakme Enrich Matte 254 shade?

Here's how it looks under flash (had poor lighting so had to use flash) otherwise it's a very dark purple actually. It is a matte shade but is very light on the lips. It feels so light. You have to be careful with drinking and eating while the colour's on because of course it leaves a mark. But since it's so dark it doesn't fade away easily. It is relatively easier to take off than my red lip colour. I just use those make-up remover tissues you get at stores. At Rs.225 it is very much affordable. I love the shade. I give it a 5/5.
And oh that's the Avon Simply Pretty Big Eye Pencil (emerald) on my eyelids. It's quite easy to put on and sometimes I go out with just that and kajal if I am in the mood for a little colour on my face but nothing too dramatic.

This is not really out of my comfort zone(sleeveless tops is totally out of it though) but I know bold shades are considered out of zone stuff. But we all have something which is out of our comfort zone.

-  Hell I am ready to try anything at least once! But I just don't get real fur. Creeps me out to even look at pictures.

-  When I lose sense of the person working behind it.

- I don't know. Right now I enjoy it a lot and it doesn't feel like a burden or something I have to do. As long as that feeling stays I am staying.

- I don't have a favourite. I like people who look like themselves no matter what they wear. The clothes don't wear them. I don't care if it is "daring" or "safe" or "innovative" or a total mind warp; they are just words. As long as what you wear is getting across the image you want to portray it is a success.

Happy Holi!

I am doing a quick post to wish all you guys a very Happy Holi!
Holi is the Indian festival of colours. It is also called dol ('d' pronounced as 'th' of the) or Basanta Utsab in Calcutta (where I live).It was a fun day and the prep started with filling up water balloons with coloured water last night. We were bursting into songs from time to time. WE sounded like howling cats and dogs as we rolled over laughing whenever a lame innuendo was passed or a balloon exploded ...
We played with dry and water colours. Buckets of water colours were poured on each other today. Water balloons were exploded on our heads,neck..where wasn't it! I am all pink and orange right now. I have few photos which I cannot upload because right now I am sitting in a friend's house.

Here we are, the first day of March - can you believe it? Spring will officially start this month, flowers will start to bloom (we hope!) and winter will finally start to let us out of it's icy grip.
